Oba-Gami Origami House LLC is a small business located in South NJ.
Saya Okayama-Winkler is the artist behind ObaGami House.
Saya was born and raised on a small island paradise located in the warm, southern waters of Japan. From a young age she learned to respect the beauty of nature, our island is filled with lush forests and beautiful ocean. She grew up in a very traditional Japanese home centered around art, music and dance. Saya and her grandmother spent many afternoons practicing the traditional art of paper folding, origami.
She decided to bring this Japanese tradition to America by way of a unique art form.
Through her work, Saya forge a blend of eastern tradition with a western decorative appeal. While the folding techniques she use are traditional, she choose color schemes, layouts and materials best suited to her art. All her materials are carefully selected for color and quality. Saya constantly strive to create new designs and patterns and have produced many custom pieces. And of course, all works are hand crafted by her.
